Greetings!
The New Year is upon us and it is sure to be filled with more exciting events. Hope everybody had a wonderful Christmas and safe New Years Celebration. It has been a little while since I have posted an update so here we go!
Last year proved to be a challenging one, maybe a little more challenging than others. Graduation, obtaining a full time job, and extreme crazy weather made it truly unpredictable. It was the largest year to date for Organic Farmer Boy as per planting wise. We planted 7000 gladiolas and record amounts of vegetables.
Over all the season can be summed up as ‘it went well’. Fanatically cold spring temperature delayed all plants by a good three week, especially the gladiolas who were the worst hit, coming a month late if ever fully maturing. Once we were off and running sales were strong and proved that the demand was once again going to exceed the supply.
I would like to take this time to thank all of my long time customers, as well as new first time buyers. Especially would like to thank A Loving Touch florist, Days Inn, Chez Perih salon, and Estevan and District Board of Tourism, Trade, and Commerce. In addition to all those unnamed faces coming out to the weekly Saturday markets, greatly appreciated.
New for the 2009 season we are trying once again, a new innovative idea for the Estevan region. Organic Farmer Boy presents CSA, Community Supported Agriculture. With this comes a whole new way of thinking, living, and eating while benefiting the earth.
With CSA’s you the consumer buy a ‘share’ in the farm and the crop it grows. The share lasts for the entire growing season averaging twelve to sixteen weeks of produce. You are encouraged to come out and see where your produce is being grown, learn how it is organically produced, and enjoy a day on the farm.
With the share come fresh produce weekly. You will receive a box once a week filled with the produce that is currently fresh and in season. Each and every week your box will be replenished with more fresh, local, organic produce. In peak season, the box will contain enough vegetables to feed a family of four.
All produce being produced is grown in certified organic land, using earth friendly practices. Being located just twenty five minutes from Estevan keeps vegetables as fresh as possible. Have you stopped to look at the product of origin labeled on your produce? You would be amazed at how far your food has travelled; making you realized the amount of pollution and gas consumed in delivering your produce. As well, just how fresh could you produce be, if it has been picked, packaged and travelled to your store from
This should prove to be exciting, and we are now offering shares for sale, limiting it to the first twenty five participants. You are able to contact me, by email at marcottejustin@hotmail.com, or feel free to call me for more details, or any questions you may have at 306 923 4432.
Finally I would like to wish you all a prosperous and adventurous year filled with fun and laughter. Take Care,
Organic Farmer Boy
